Parliamentary panel on Commerce to visit state from Oct 6

OST Bureau

Bhubaneswar, Sep 30:

A 30-member team of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Commerce will review the performance of several ongoing projects, including private projects, in the state on October 6. The team, led by its chairman Shanta Kumar, will stay here till October 9.

The committee will discuss the performance and implementation of projects of state PSUs and several private projects. Among the projects the committee would discuss are Nalco, East Coast Railway, National Highway Authority of India (NHAI), Mahanadi Coal Fields Ltd and Jindal Steel and Power Limited (JSPL) in the state during the visit, said sources in the Industry department.

The panel will also review the expenditure incurred on the projects so far.

It is to be noted that several projects of NHAI and ECoR are progressing at a snail’s pace even though they were approved years ago. The delay has been caused by a variety of factors including land acquisition, dearth of funds and lackadaisical attitude of the state government.
