Paralysed House adjourned till Monday following ruckus

OST Bureau
Bhubaneswar, Nov 30:

Odisha assembly was adjourned till Monday after ┬áthe opposition Congress MLAs continued to stall proceedings by trooping into the well of the House repeatedly and shouting slogans near the Speaker’s podium.

The House functioned for just 2 minutes during the question hour and lasted another two minutes when it met at noon for the zero hour. The same situation prevailed when the House reassembled at 3 pm forcing the Deputy Speaker Sanand Marandi to order adjournment until 10.30 am on Monday.

It is difficult to understand why the Congress was disrupting proceedings when it had moved an adjournment motion on the Bhushan plant issue, said a senior BJP leader.

During the pandemonium in the House today, ruling BJD MLAs were heard shouting slogans alleging Congress members had been bribed by Bhushan Steel company to prevent a debate on the adjournment motion on the repeated cases of accidents in the Bhushan plant.

The House, by all accounts, is in a paralysed state and unless efforts are made to break the impasse the winter session will end without discussing the burning issues in the state, a senior Congress leader said.
