Paradip, Nov 18:

The Jagatsinghpur police issued a lookout circular against Congress leader Bapi Sarkhel in connection with the murder of Seaways Group General Manager Mahendra Swain, informed SP Jai Narayan Pankaj today.

The SP has asked Sharkel to appear before the Raghunathpur police station.

Sarkhel’s office here and two other places were raided by police yesterday on the basis of information provided by prime accused Rakesh Chaubey, sources said.

The raids were conducted over alleged links of Sarkhel with Chaubey. Police reportedly examined the CCTV footage of the office and seized some documents during the raids.

“As soon as I came to know that a lookout circular has been issued against me, I decided to go to the SP office and meet him. The law will take its own course. I have no connection with the murder incident. Neither I am involved in stevedoring nor business. I am a politician and labour union leader. It is obvious for me to come across many persons and have relation with them. However, it doesn’t mean that I will be responsible for any crime committed by them,” said Sarkhel.

It may be recalled here that on October 26 shots were fired at Swain near Ambedkar Bhawan at Madhuban Colony in Paradip. Two miscreants had hurled crude hand bombs at the SUV in which Swain was travelling. While Swain was fleeing to save himself after alighting from the vehicle, miscreants fired two rounds at him leading to his death.
