Panel explores ways to promote tourism in Odisha

The Tourism Advisory Committee (TAC) held its maiden meeting to prepare a roadmap for development of tourism in Odisha.


The Committee, formed under Tourism Policy 2013, had its first meeting here under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary Gokul Chandra Pati. Senior officials of the department and other stakeholders participated in it.

The participants discussed ways to formulate a tourism development roadmap, establish synergy among other line departments and suggest a future strategy for tourism development.

Among the measures suggested by the Committee were expediting implementation of light & sound show at Dhauli, Khandagiri-Udayagiri and Konark, preparation of the draft project report on coastal circuit under Swadesh Darshan scheme of government of India, exploration of connectivity to Gaya and Varanasi, identification of land for eco-tourism destinations, formation of a committee under the chairmanship of principal secretary, Home with DG police, secretary SC & ST department, secretary Tourism to review possible relaxation for visit of foreigners to particularly vulnerable tribal groups (PVTGs) and focusing on Shamuka as a pilot project for Odisha Tourism.

Notably, the suggestions of the Committee will be put up to the State Tourism Promotion Council headed by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.

The meeting was attended by U N Behera, Development Commissioner, R Balakrishnan, ACS Finance, SS Srivastav, PCCF (Wildlife), Dr Arabinda Kumar Padhee, Secretary Tourism, Lalit Kumar Das, Special Secretary Home, Anil Kumar Samal, Director Tourism, Debi Dutta Biswal, Special Secretary, Forest & Environment Department, Harihar Patra, Toshali Group, JK Mohanty, Chairman HRAO and Sudarsan Patnaik, International sand artist and other officials.
