Bhubaneswar, Dec 31:
Days after Biju Janata Dal (BJD) approached Odisha State Election Commission (SEC) seeking a ban on broadcast of advertisements issued by Union Government agencies in local media, the SEC today upheld BJD’s argument and ruled in its favour.
Citing the model code of conduct in force for the upcoming panchayat polls, the SEC imposed restrictions on broadcasting and publication of advertisements in local TV channels and print media.
It has explicitly asked the Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Ministry and Drinking Water and Sanitation Department to take the advertisements pertaining to Ujjwala scheme and Swachh Bharat Abhiyan off air from local television channels.
Broadcast of these advertisements amount to violation of the model code of conduct, it has said.
BJD had approached SEC on December 29 requesting it to ask concerned departments to take Central Government’s advertisements on Swachh Bharat and Ujjwala scheme in local television channels off air citing that they appear to be in violation of model code of conduct issued by SEC.
