Malala, 17, was shot by Taliban gunmen in her forehead while travelling by her school van, in her home town in Pakistan’s Swat district in 2012 due to her defiance of the Taliban’s ban on girls education.

The senate, upper house of Pakistan parliament, greeted Malala for her commitment to promote peace and education in the war-hit areas of Khyber-Pakthunkhwa in Pakistan.

“We appreciate and congratulate Malala Yousafzai for receiving the Nobel Peace Prize on her significant commitment and sacrifices for promoting peace and education in militants-hit areas,” the resolution said.

The resolution was tabled by the opposition Awami National Party (ANP) senator Haji Mohammad Adeel and was supported by the treasury benches.

The resolution stated that senators, on behalf of the upper house as well on behalf of the entire nation, congratulate Malala for her services and sacrifices for a good cause in the country.

The Norwegian Nobel Committee last week decided to award the 2014 Nobel Peace Prize to Indian child rights activist Kailash Satyarthi and Malala for their struggle against the suppression of children and young people, and for the right of all children to education.
