Over Rs 8 lakh looted from a private firm cashier at gunpoint in Odisha’s Dhenkanal

Dhenkanal, Apr 21:

Three unidentified miscreants this afternoon looted over Rs 8 lakh from employees of a private firm at gunpoint who were on their way to deposit the money in bank in Dhenkanal district of Odisha.

According to reports, Dilip Kumar, cashier of Enzen Global Solutions at Krigarasahi in the district, was heading to a branch of Union Bank of India at Dhenkanal with Rs 8,11,690 stashed in a bag in an SUV at around 2.30 pm today.

Soon after getting on to the car, three bike-borne miscreants with faces covered with handkerchiefs intercepted the vehicle (OR 05 AH 6466) barely 100 meters away from the office.

While one of them waited with the bike being on start, another two threatened the driver and the cashier at gunpoint and snatched the cash-filled bag. They fled the spot on the two-wheeler on NH 55 towards Cuttack.

Police arrived at spot after being informed about the incident and started probe.

“We are questioning the cashier and driver after detaining them at police station and further investigation is on,” said Town Police Station IIC Abhinab Dalua.

It may be mentioned here that over Rs 5 lakh was looted from a nationalized bank in the town here a week ago where the miscreants had robbed the bank and customers at toy gunpoint.

The latest incident has raised questions over the deteriorating law and order situation in the district headquarters town.
