Kandhamal: The poor education system in remote areas of the State came to fore when over 400 tribal students of a residential school walked 4 km to register grievance with the authorities here today.

Hundreds of students between class VI and X marched towards Kutia Kandha Development Agency in Belghar from Tumudibandha Block of Kandhamal district demanding to fill up the vacant teacher posts at their school.

They also leveled an allegation against the assistant headmaster for physical and mental harassment towards them.

According to reports, the students of Kutia Kandha educational complex under Odisha PVTG Empowerment and Livelihoods Improvement Programme had been complaining to the senior officials about teacher shortage as well as physical and mental torture by the assistant headmaster many a time.

Despite their repeated complaints, the matter remained unaddressed.

Later, the students decided to approach the Kutia Kandha Development Agency by walking 4 km from the school.
