Bargarh, Apr 19:
More than 20 shops were reduced to ashes as a major fire broke out at Hatapada daily market in Bargarh town of Odisha late last night.
Three fire brigade units managed to douse the flames after a 3-hour-long effort, sources said, adding that there were no reports of casualties in the incident.
According to reports, the blaze originated from a particular shop located at one end of the market and started engulfing other nearby shops gradually.
Explosion of two cooking gas cylinders inside a shop intensified the fire destroying property worth Rs 40 lakh, as per primary assessment.
Though the exact reason behind the fire was yet to be ascertained, it is suspected that electric short circuit might have led to the mishap.
“We have started an investigation to identify the cause of the fire,” said Prafulla Kumar Biswal, Bargarh Assistant Fire Officer.
