Cuttack, Feb 2:
The Orissa High Court today stayed the appointment of Commissioner for persons with disabilities (PwDs) Dr Minati Behera.
Following the appointment of Behera, several activits and persons from the disabilities petitioned Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik urging him to cancel her appointment.
Later, petitioner K Anand had challenged the appointment of Behera in the High Court seeking cancellation of her appointment.
It was alleged that she was picked over other eligible candidates due to political pressure.
The court has posted the next hearing in the case to March 31.
Notably, Behera was appointed as the Commissioner of persons with disabilities (PwDs) in April last year.
The appointment of Behera was approved by chief minister Naveen Patnaik, who chose her among the three names recommended by the Search Committee for this post. The appointment had attracted wide criticism as she is neither a person with disability nor has any experience of working in the sector.
The post was lying vacant after the retirement of Kasturi Mohapatra.
