Bhubaneswar, Nov 29:
The organisational polls of Odisha unit of BJP would be finished by January. A decision on this context was taken today in a meeting held at party headquarters in Bhubaneswar.
Attended by executives, elected representatives and other senior leaders of the party including Biswa Bhusan Harichandan, Jual Oram, Bijoy Mohapatra and State In charge Arun Singh, the meeting decided that the nomination of the State BJP President would be finished by January.
“We have planned to finish the Mandal level polls by December 10 and District committee polls by December 25. If everything goes as planned, the selection of state unit president should also be over by first week of January,” said Senior BJP leader and president hopeful Nayan Kishore Mohanty.
“The selection of the president depends upon the central committee. I have been in the party for last 35 years and will do anything asked by the party,” he added avoiding direct questions about his chances for the post.
Senior leader Pratap Sarangi, who also is a front-runner for the president post, diplomatically avoided any internal strife for the top party post.
‘BJP believes in internal democracy and organisational polls are part of life. I don’t know where my name features in the scheme of things. I do hear some names including mine in the media; however, they are not important for me. I have not yet been consulted for the position,” said Sarangi who currently is the spokesperson of the party.
