Bhubaneswar, Dec 11:
The opposition Congress which moved an adjournment motion on the Orissa Reservation of Vacancies (ORV) Act, 1975, in the Assembly on Wednesday, staged a walk-out after a debate on the issue, protesting the inordinate delay in taking forward the proposed amendment to the Act.
Leader of opposition Bhupinder Singh said it was rather unfortunate that the BJD government was sleeping over the ORV Act Amendment Bill, even one year after it was introduced in the House.
“It is clear evidence of the fact that the BJD government is anti-tribal and anti-dalit and also that it is not interested in ensuring proper reservation for them,” Singh said.
ST and SC Development minister Lal Behari Himirika, while taking part in the debate on the adjournment motion assured the House that the amendment that the government was serious about the amendment to the ORV Act.
He said the Bill was being considered by the select committee which had already made its recommendations.
” These recommendations were being examined by the Law department and the state government would take appropriate action after it receives the views of the Law department in the matter,” the minister said.
