Bhubaneswar, Dec 9:
The proceedings of the state Assembly, disrupted since Saturday following a dharna staged by the Leader of Opposition Bhupinder Singh and other Congress members were normalised on Monday after the assurance by the Speaker Pradip Amat that the chief minister Naveen Patnaik would give a statement on the Tikiri lady teacher’s death issue in the House on Tuesday.
It may be mentioned that the Congress members led by the leader of the Opposition Bhupinder Singh had staged an indefinite dharna on the reporters’ table inside the well of the House on Saturday protesting the ruling of the Speaker who ignored the their demands and adjourned the House till Monday.
The Opposition leader later sat on an indefinite dharna inside the House stating that he would not budge until the Speaker issues direction to the chief minister to personally reply to the debate on the Tikiri teacher’s death.
However, after the Speaker on Monday made a formal announcement that the chief minister would make a statement on the issue on Tuesday, Singh and his colleagues in the house withdrew their dharna .
