Japanese Encephalitis claimed life of one more child in Odisha’s Malkangiri today taking the death toll in the vector-borne disease to 89 in the district.
The deceased was identified as Surjya Madhi (2) of Mudakhala village under Korukonda block in the district.
According to reports, the child succumbed while undergoing treatment in the ICU of the District Headquarters Hospital.
In a related incident, Malkangiri Collector admitted an eight-year-old girl child affected by Japanese Encephalitis to the District Headquarters Hospital despite unwillingness of her parents to allow her for treatment at the medical.
According to sources, the Collector managed to take the girl, hailing from Daniguda village under Sadar block, to the hospital after persuasion by local Sarpanch, Anganwadi and ASHA workers.
The parents of the child didn’t show any interest to send her to the hospital as her two siblings had died earlier at the medical due to the disease, sources said.
Meanwhile, a three-year-old girl child died at the Koraput District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) today suspectedly due to Japanese Encephalitis. The deceased, identified as Gayatri Dalei of Kaudiagada under Baipariguda block in Koraput, died while undergoing treatment in the ICU of Koraput DHH.
