The Ulunda police today arrested accused Prakash Dehury in Bargarh in connection with the Makhun Bag murder case who was allegedly killed while in custody of Bheden police.

Dehury, a Home Guard of Bheden police station in Bargarh district, was arrested for his alleged complicity in the murder of Bag.

Yesterday, Home Guard driver Pramod Sahu was arrested and two other police officers sub-inspector (SI) Soumyaranjan Patra and assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Pitamber Behera of Bheden police station were arrested by Ulunda police on Wednesday for their alleged involvement in the custodial death. The trio was sent to judicial custody after a local court of Birmaharajpur rejected their bail pleas.

These police personnel were arrested in connection with the murder of Makhun whose skeleton was recovered from the Ulunda forest in Sonepur district. The DNA tests confirmed the body of Makhun.

Though four cops have been arrested so far, Officer In-Charge (OIC) of Bheden police station Sushil Nayak and three others allegedly involved in the case are still on the run.

It may be mentioned that the OIC of Bheden police station had summoned Makhun on July 17 this year for interrogation in a rape case registered against his second son.

Makhun hailing from Dekulba village did not return home for several days following which his family members launched a frantic search, but in vain.

When all their attempts to locate Makhun failed, the locals gheraoed the police station on September 16. After this, the Bargarh RDC and Sonepur SP begun probe into the matter.

After almost two months, a skeleton was found at a forested area in Sonepur district on September 24. Following this, Makhun’s son– Biju Bag– lodged a complaint with Ulunda police station alleging that his father had been murdered by Bheden police and his body had been dumped in the Metakani forest.

Notably, Bargarh SP Ashish Kumar Singh suspended four policemen of Bheden police station OIC Sushil Nayak, arrested SI Soumyaranjan Patra, ASI Pitamber Behera and Constable Gita Bhoi on Wednesday in connection with the case. Besides, the top cop wrote to the district judge to conduct a judicial inquiry into the matter.
