Dhenkanal, Dec 1:
A 52-year-old woman was killed and a man critically injured when an elephant attacked them in two separate incidents in Joranda area of Dhenkanal district today, forest officials said.
The deceased Bina Jena was attacked by the tusker while she was taking a morning walk with her husband, a college principal and sister-in- law, she was later taken to the district headquarter hospital where she was declared dead, hospital sources said.
However, her husband and sister-in-law had a narrow escape.
Officials said about an hour later, one Rabi Nahak was injured by the same tusker when he was going to work in a paddy field.
Nahak has been admitted to the district headquarters hospital at Dhenkanal where he is undergoing treatment.
