Nabarangpur, June 3:
One person was killed and six others injured in a group clash in a village over an alleged love affair in Odisha’s Nabarangpur district, police said today.
Police said the clash took place at Kendugida village under Tentulikhunti police station on Monday night over an alleged love affair between a dalit boy and a tribal girl. Relatives of the girl allegedly attacked family members of the boy, leaving seven persons injured.
They were later admitted to the district headquarters hospital here, police added.
Police said one of the injured identified as Balli succumbed to his injuries this morning and condition of four of the injured persons was stated to be serious.
To maintain peace in the affected village, adequate number of police personnel have been deployed, said Nabarangpur SP Brajesh Rai.
Police said a tribal girl was in love with a dalit boy from the same village and had eloped with him about a week ago. An FIR complaining of abduction was filed by the girl’s family following which the girl, who is a minor, was rescued, police added.
The SP said the situation is now under control.
The girl was sent for medical examination after being rescued and her statement would be recorded, SDPO (Headquarters) Udhav Naik said.
