Bhubaneswar, Nov 23:
The flying squad of the Excise department in Cuttack arrested one person and seized 10 grams of heroin and 300 grams of ganja from him.
The accused, Jaganmohan Pattnaik (45) of Nuagaon under Ward No – 10 in Jatni, was booked under section 20, 21 of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act and will be forwarded to the local court here later today, an excise official said.
The seized narcotics substances seized during a raid at Pattnaik’s Jatni residence this morning are worth more than Rs 1 lakh, said Inspector-in-charge of the flying squad Ramachandra Mishra.
Pattnaik was trapped on the streets of Jatni while he was going to sell the heroin and ganja to drug peddlers. He was selling the stuff, procured from West Bengal, in small packets in Jatni for the last several years, Mishra added.
“Pattnaik, a habitual offender, was earlier arrested by our personnel six months ago for illegal sale of narcotic substances,” the excise official said.
On November 13 this year, excise sleuths had nabbed two drug peddlers from the city and seized 70 grams of heroin, worth approximately Rs 7 lakh, from their possession.
