One more eunuch succumbs; toll in Odisha road mishap rises to 3

Bhubaneswar, July 5:

The death toll in the accident involving  a group of eunuchs in the Odisha capital early this morning mounted to three with Pratima, one of those critically injured in the mishap died later in the day.

Pratima, who had been admitted to the Capital Hospital along with the injured, was referred to the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack after her condition deteriorated. But she was declared dead by doctors on arrival there.

Baras and Pachei, two other eunuchs had been killed on the spot when the truck in which they were travelling  collided head on with another truck parked on the roadside near the Ramamani petrol pump close to Khandagiri square here.

Four other eunuchs – Sapna, Lucky, Rupali and Madhavi – are fighting for their life in the hospital.

Hundreds of eunuchs under the banner of All Odisha Hinjada Mahasangha (AOHM) staged an agitation in front of Capital Hospital here protesting against the delay in the conduct of autopsy of the bodies of the deceased by the hospital authorities.

Pratap Sahu, president of AOHM has demanded all State Government’s benefits to be provided to the eunuchs in state.
