Bhubaneswar, Mar 3:
The ‘star’ turn in Odisha politics continued on Monday when Ollywood actor Pintu Nanda joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Nanda joined the party in the presence of state BJP president KV Singhdeo at the party office here. He said that he was inspired by the ideology of BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narandra Modi and will work for the development of the people in the state.
It is to be noted that Ollywood actor Sritam Das and actress Pinki Pradhan had joined the party a few days back.
Nanda is the latest in a fast lengthening list of Ollywood actors taking the political plunge in the last few days.
It all started with Anubhav Mohanty, the biggest catch so far, joining the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) a few weeks ago amid speculation that he could be fielded as the ruling party candidate in the Cuttack Lok Sabha constituency.
He was soon followed into the BJD by Pappu Pom Pom, the popular film and television comedian.
On the other side of the political divide, yesteryear stars Bijay Mohanty and Aparajita Mohanty, joined the Congress.
It is, however, a moot question how many of them will continue to work for the party they have joined if they are not given tickets for the coming Lok Sabha and Assembly elections.
