Sundargarh, Feb 16:
Unidentified miscreants shot dead a 75-year old man and injured four of his family members at Kriyakudar village under Koira police limits in Odisha’s Sundargarh district in the wee hours on Monday.
Sources said one Lochan Barik (75) of Kriyakudar village on Sunday night had gone to sleep along with his family members.
At around 2 AM, about ten unidentified miscreants knocked the door of his house. After the door was opened, the miscreants barged into Lochan’s house and searched for something, on being resisted in their act by Lochan’s family members the miscreants severely beat up Lochan’s wife, son and his two nephews. One of the miscreants pulled out a pistol and shot Lochan from point-blank range killing him on the spot.
The miscreants later fled the area before the villagers rushed to the spot.
The villagers later admitted the injured family members to the Koira hospital.
Following a complaint lodged by the family members today, a team of police of Koira police station led by IIC HK Naik arrived at the spot around noon and sent the body for post mortem.
Police sources said the miscreants, after searching for Hanuman coins in the house, shot dead Lochan and beat up the family members as they resisted.
However, another source said the incident was fallout of a previous rivalry.
“We have registered a murder case and efforts are on to nab the miscreants”, said the IIC.
