Odisha Human Rights Commission (OHRC) today directed the authorities to bear the treatment expenses of an acid attack victim undergoing treatment at SCB Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack.
The Rights body directed the Superintendent of the government-run premier hospital to ensure that all possible treatment be provided to survivor of acid attack till she is fully recovered and if need be, the cost of her treatment be met out of the State Treatment Fund. The Superintendent is also to submit compliance report to the Commission as early as possible, the order said.
Notably, the petitioners alleged that the minor victim identified as Madhu Bisoi (name changed) from Gangpur under Badagada Police Station limits in Ganjam district being severely injured in an acid attack was first admitted into thethe MKCC Medical College and Hospital, Berhampur on September 6 last year and was later shifted to the SCB Medical College & Hospital after her condition worsened. When the girl was under teatment at Cuttack, the concerned authorities of the hospital in a heard-hearted manner told her father to take away the patient athough she is not yet fully recovered.
Similarly, lGP (Southern Range) and Ganjam SP were also directed submit their respective reports to the Commission within four weeks’ time indicating the circumstances under which such a bizaree incident took place, and what stage the investigation is pending.
The petition was filed by Namrata Chadha and Manoj Jena, founder and chairperson of Human Rights Front respectively.
