Bhubaneswar, Mar 30:
The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Crime Branch of the Odisha police today sealed the Corporate and Head offices of Micro Finance Ltd at Sahidnagar and Rasulgarh respectively and seized several documents.
The EOW on Saturday had arrested the director of Micro Finance Ltd Baikuntha Patnaik and Ajay Swain, personal assistant (PA) to the commissioner-cum-secretary, Panchayatiraj on the charges of money laundering and issuing official letters without prior permission respectively.
The EOW acted on a complaint filed by the Panchayati Raj department following media reports about an unauthorized letter issued by Swain in favour of the company.
According to reports, Swain, during his stint as PA to the commissioner-cum-secretary, Panchayatiraj, had issued a letter in the name of the former, to all district collectors not to take action against the Micro Finance Ltd, a non-banking finance company, and allow it to continue its business since it had got prior permission from the RBI and the state government.
While the state government has lodged an FIR against the company, Rajesh Kumar, DIG Crime Branch is heading the investigation.
