Promising chess star and WCM Saina Salonika was accorded a rousing reception at the Biju Patnaik airport in the capital city this afternoon on her return from New Delhi where she won the silver medal in the U-12 girls category of the Commonwealth Chess Championship.
Saina defeated Bristy Mukherjee in the final and bagged the runners-up trophy by with 6.5 points.
The second seed Odisha girl registered five wins and three draws and scored 6.5 points by the end of the eighth round.
Besides Saina, another Odia boy and fifth seed Mahitosh Dey came up third in the U-10 open event with five wins, one draw and two defeats with 5.5 points.
IM Padmini Rout started the meet with 18th rank and finished ninth with seven points from nine rounds. in the open Commonwealth Chess Championship.
