Bargarh: Dhanu Yatra in the western Odisha town of Bargarh, believed to be the largest open-air theatre show in the world, has found its new demon king ‘Kansa’ in Bhubaneswar Pradhan putting an end to the speculation over who will don the covetous role at the 11-day-long festival.
Pradhan was selected among 23 artistes who took part in the audition that was held earlier today at District Primary Education Programme (DPEP) office.
Bargarh Additional Collector Judhister Nayak, who was the Convenor of a five-member special jury, announced the name of new ‘Kansa’ after two days of audition.
“He (Pradhan) was judged and selected on the basis of his dialogue delivery skills, body language and intelligence quotient,” Nayak told reporters here after the audition.
Pradhan, a native of Sarala village and had acted as ‘Kansa’ twice earlier, promised to entertain the audience like never before.
“I will show how the actual ‘Kansa’ through my acting,” said Pradhan by thanking the jury members for their decision.
With the selection of Pradhan, it has come to an end for Hrushikesh Bhoi, an Additional Sub-Inspector, who has been playing the most coveted role since 2009.
Bargarh town will host the world’s biggest open-air theatre, for 11 days starting from December 23.
During the festival, the small town will be transformed into Mathura, the kingdom of Kansa. River Jeera will turn into the Yamuna. And Amapali, which is located on the outskirts of the town, will become the mythical land of Gopapura.
