A youth on Thursday evening launched a murderous assault on his estranged girlfriend near Aiginia under Khandagiri police station limits in Odisha capital.
According to reports, the accused Pradosh Champati aka Bapi, a resident of Goda under Begunia police station limits in Khurda district was in love with a girl in the neighbourhood. He had promised to marry her and had developed physical relationship with her. But when she became pregnant, Bapi’s family refused to marry her.
Later, the girl filed a complaint against Bapi at the Begunia police station seeking justice.
Yesterday evening, she has gone to her uncle’s house at Kuberpuri in Aiginia area here. While she was on her way, Bapi and one of his friends waylaid her and threatened her to withdraw the police complaint. When the victim refused to give in to his demands, the accused slit her throat with a knife and fled.
When the girl screamed for help, the local people came to her rescue and informed the local police about the incident. Khandagiri police reached the spot and rushed the girl to Capital Hospital. Later, she was shifted to a private hospital after her condition deteriorated.
Meanwhile, police are investigating into the case.
