Rourkela, Feb 16:
After battling for life for a day, a youth died today while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Odisha’s Rourkela who had set himself on fire.
The youth had gone to meet the inspector of Udit Nagar police station yesterday. However, he was allegedly not allowed to meet the police personnel. Protesting discrimination against him, the youth set himself on fire in the premises of the police station.
The deceased identified as Prabhakar Nayak (40) alias Jhabu was residing in the DL Square area of Basanti Colony here.
A few months ago, the victim was arrested by Udit Nagar police on charges of misbehaving with a woman and later forwarded to the court. He was released from jail recently on bail.
After pouring kerosene all over his body, the youth lit fire and rushed into the police station where policemen contained the fire with the help of blankets. The victim was rushed to Rourkela Government Hospital and later shifted to Ispat General Hospital (IGH) as his health condition deteriorated.
He succumbed to his injuries this morning as he had sustained nearly 80% burn injuries.
Notably, he was released from jail four days ago after spending around 15 days behind bars.
