Bargarh: Dhanu Jatra, the world’s biggest open air theatre festival, will begin from January 11, 2019, announced Bargarh District Collector Indramani Tripathy today.
The world famous annual festival will conclude on January 21.
A decision in this regard was taken at the Dhanu Yatra Core Committee meeting here this afternoon.
During the festival, the small town will be transformed into Mathura, the kingdom of Kansa. River Jeera will turn into the Yamuna. And Amapali, which is located on the outskirts of the town, will become the mythical land of Gopapura.
The festival is being held in Bargarh since 1947. Dhanu Yatra begins with the King of Mathura Kansa ascending the throne and ends with Lord Krishna killing his uncle.
