Sambalpur: Despite stringent laws against sexual assaults and brutality, a woman in Odisha’s Sambalpur district was stripped by youths on the road in the broad daylight for not withdrawing a rape case.

The serious allegation was leveled by the victim with the Hirakud police against the accused yesterday.

The shameful incident was reported from Hirakud old market area at around 4.00 pm on Friday when the woman was going alone to bring her daughter from the school.

According to reports, two youths were chasing her while she was going to the school on the street road. Suddenly, they attacked the woman and stripped her saree. When she protested, they attacked her with a sharp weapon.

However, nobody came to rescue her from the attackers. She was abused and threatened if she will not withdraw her daughter’s rape case in the police station.

With no option left, the injured woman entered into someone’s house in half-naked condition seeking help.

Later, the woman along with her family lodged a written complaint with Hirakud police against the youths.

A case has been registered following the complaint. The matter is being probed, said Hirakud IIC Tofan Baag.

Notably, the woman’s daughter is also a rape victim. She was attacked and stripped by the youths for not withdrawing a case against the rape accused.
