A woman who was kidnapped and raped by her husband and his two friends a year ago has approached the police commissionerate for protection after receiving death threats from the absconding accused.
On Sunday, the victim approached the police commissionerate headquarters here and appealed for protection against her husband who has threatened to kill her. The victim had married Saroj Kumar Rath in 2014.
After marriage, her husband and his family allegedly started torturing her. Based on her complaint at Brahmagiri police station in Puri district, her husband was arrested.
After being released on bail in February 2015, the accused kidnapped the victim and had brought her to Bhubaneswar. He kept her confined to a room for 10 days, in a drugged state. Saroj and his friends raped her for 10 days and also shaved off her head. On a night when Saroj had fallen asleep, the woman escaped.
On February 6 last year, Saheed Nagar police station officers rescued the woman from Vani Vihar square. A case of rape had been registered with the Mahila Police Station. The main accused victim’s husband Saroj Kumar Rath and his two accomplices are on the run since then.
The police have said that since the incident took place under Brahmagiri police station limits, they have transferred the case there.
