Udala: A woman Forest Guard posted in Kaptipada forest range of Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district was suspended today for allegedly burying carcass of a six-month-old male elephant calf without informing higher authorities.
According to reports, Forest Guard Anita Singh had buried the elephant calf carcass with help of some locals at Raipal forest beat near Kaptipada range on January 13. The calf was suspected to have been killed in a fight with a male tusker.
Later, a team of Forest officials rushed to the spot and found the decomposed carcass, which was buried. The carcass was exhumed and its autopsy was conducted, following which it was buried again.
Baripada DFO Swayam Mallik said the Forest Guard committed the act with an intention of covering up the matter.
