Vigilance sleuths today arrested Satrughan Pradhan, Assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of Majhipali police outpost under Sasan police limits in Odisha’s Sambalpur district for allegedly taking bribe of Rs 3,500.
According to sources, Pradhan had demanded Rs 5,000 from one Santosh Thakur of Talab village not to lodge an FIR against the latter over his involvement in a brawl. However, Thakur agreed to pay Rs 3,500 to which the ASI nodded.
Later, Thakur reported the matter in Vigilance following which a trap was laid by the anti-corruption agency and the ASI was caught red handed while receiving the bribe money from Thakur. The money was later recovered from the official, sources said.
