She was in her 30s and is survived by her husband Ramesh Majhi, an eight-year-old son and a five-year-old daughter.

“The doctors say the death was caused by septicaemia caused by complications from a  family planning operation she had undergone last year,” Majhi said over phone from Delhi.

Besides Majhi, Tapasi’s brother-in-law Prakash Majhi and family members were present when the end came at about 5.20 pm.

Family sources said Tapasi’s body will be brought back to their native place Dandamunda under Chandahandi block in Nabarangpur district where the last rites would be conducted on Tuesday.

A pall of gloom descended on Chandahandi in Nabarangpur district after news of the death of Tapasi broke.

On June 4, Tapasi was admitted in SUM hospital in Bhubaneswar and put on a ventilator after developing some complications. She was taken to Medanta hospital in Delhi in a special flight after her condition deteriorated on Sunday.

Sources said Tapasi had some complications from a family planning operation she had undergone over a year ago. The operation was conducted at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar.

Her death has been condoled by people from various walks of life, organizations and members of the media.
