Bhubaneswar: In a bid to make Chilika gets a special place in world tourism map, Odisha government is planning to host bird festival in Asia’s largest brackish water lagoon.
The festival will be jointly organised by Tourism department and Forest department in January next year.
The exact date for the festival is yet to be finalised. However, the authorities are planning to hold the festival in January second or third week.
The bird festival is expected to attract a number of tourists to the lake during this winter.
There will be various programmes like photo exhibition, painting competition, photography, migratory bird watching sessions and many more during the festival.
Sources said that special arrangements will be made in Nalabana and Mangalajodi involving the brave tour operators in the event.
A large number of migratory birds flock Chilika during winter every year. They enhance the beauty of the lake and islands. As the tourists also come to Chilika to enjoy the serenity of nature and beauty of lagoon, the bird festival will help in increasing the number of tourists from across the country and overseas.
Chilika is creating a possibility to boost tourism in the State. With hosting the bird festival in Chilika, the number of tourists will be increased, said Tourism Director Nitin Bhanudas Jawale.
On the other hand, in view of influx of thousands of migratory birds in Chilika, Bhitarkanika, Ansupa, Nalabana, Mahanadi River banks and Hirakud, the bird census will be conducted in January next year.
