Odisha to get Rs 2624 crore for NH projects

Central government on Friday has approved two National Highway projects at the cost of Rs 2624 crore for Odisha. These are Singhara-Binjabahal section of National Highway – 6 and the Binjabahal-Tilaibani section. For Singhara-Binjabahal section Rs 1312.49 crore has been allocated, while for Binjabahal-Tilaibani section Rs 1312.46 crore has been granted.

The Central grant for National Highways will not need any further cabinet approval, according to sources. These projects will be carried out in hybrid annuity route. According to this model, Road and Transportation ministry will take the onus of Rs 1000 crore to be spent for civil work without cabinet approval.

The civil cost has been separated from the total expenditure of the project under the hybrid annuity route.

On Friday, the central government approved national highways in nine states at the cost of Rs 17 thousand crores.

In a meeting headed by Road Transport and Highways secretary Sanjay Mitra, 18 national highway projects were approved, out of which nine projects will be done under the hybrid annuity route.

Under this 1000 kilometers of national highway will be created. Other than Odisha, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Kerala, Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Punjab were also granted national highway projects.
