Bhubaneswar, Dec 3:
Hundreds of teachers under the banner of School Teachers’ Federation of Odisha (STFO) today took out a rally from Master Canteen station to PMG square in Bhubaneswar demanding equal pay for equal work.
The teachers also demanded implementation of recommendations of seventh pay commission among others.
Meanwhile, some of the teachers clashed with on-duty cops for a brief while after their march was interrupted by the security forces. No one, however, was reported injured in the incident.
The teachers further warned the government of backlash during upcoming panchayat polls, if their demands are not met.
“We demand equal pay for all the teachers doing the same job. We have been saying this since long. However, the government doesn’t seem to care. We will take our fight to the villages and build up a mass movement before the panchayat polls. The government will get a befitting reply, if they don’t give in to our demands,” said President of STFO Prakash Jena.
“I would request all the teachers to stay away from the agitation. We have formed a committee which will look into their demands and take necessary action,” said BJD MLA Dibya Shankar Mishra.
