Bhubaneswar: Odisha government today decided to ensure piped water supply in all gram panchayat (GP) headquarters of the State by March 2019.
The decision in this regard was taken at a high-level meeting chaired by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik at the State Secretariat here today, said an official release.
As many as 5586 out of 6801 panchayat headquarters in the State have piped water supply, it was revealed at the meeting.
Similarly, 15,265 habitations having partial piped water supply will be covered fully by May 2018.
It was disclosed at the meeting that measures are underway to provide potable drinking water in areas having high fluoride and saline content by March 2018 on temporary basis while piped water supply projects in these areas will be completed in the next two years.
The meeting was told that piped water supply projects in 533 habitations of primitive tribes spread across 12 districts were functioning well.
It was revealed at the meeting that while tenders worth Rs 4000 crore have been finalized for piped water supply as of now, another lot of tenders worth Rs 5000 for piped water supply will be invited before March 2018.
Chief Minister ordered officials to complete these projects in due time and take measures so that people do not face hardship in the forthcoming summer.
