Bhubaneswar, Feb 13:
The Parliamentary Affairs minister Bikram Keshari Arukh today informed the Odisha Assembly that three persons have been named in the FIR and Bargarh SDPO is overseeing the investigations into the alleged abduction of one Sugrib Ranadiba, while the matter is being probed by the IIC of Bheden police station.
Responding to Speaker Niranjan Pujari’s ruling to make a statement on the matter, Arukh said, appropriate action would be taken against erring officials if there was any delay in lodging the FIR.
However, the minister’s reply had no mention of Handlooms, Textiles and Handicrafts Minister Snehangini Chhuria’s involvement in the alleged abduction case.
“The FIR lodged by Durga Ranabida, son of Sugrib Ranabida at the police station on January 26 on his father Sugriba Ranabida’s abduction had named three persons – Sadananda Karmi, Ali Satyanarayana and B Rana,” Arukh told the House.
It may be mentioned that Sugrib Ranabida had levelled startling allegations against Chhuria that he was kidnapped days before the cooperative elections and kept at various places in Odisha capital in confinement including minister’s official residence.
The Speaker, it may be noted, had asked the government yesterday to reply to the allegation levelled by the Congress that it was shielding the minister after members of the principal Opposition party created a ruckus over the issue forcing adjournments.
The minister said today the case is being investigated by the IIC, Bheden police station, under the supervision of SDPO Bargarh. He further said that if it was found during the course of investigation that the complaint was registered late, then action will be taken against the concerned police official.
Pandemonium prevailed in the House for quite some time over the regional disparity issue. With Congress members creating noisy scenes inside the well of the House, the Speaker adjourned the House till Monday.
The House had barely functioned for barely six minutes after it resumed at 3 pm at the end of the last adjournment when all hell broke loose. Congress members rushed to the middle of the House and shouted slogans, leaving the Speaker with very little option but to adjourn the House for the day.
It may be recalled that Sugriba Ranbida, hailing from Hatagaon village, had levelled allegations against Snehangini Chhuria of abducting him to prevent him from exercising his franchise during the Rushuda Credit Cooperative Society election
