Phulbani: Intense winter has gripped Odisha with Daringbadi in Kandhamal district freezing at 3 degree Celsius along with snowfall at various places in the area today.
The snowfall was witnessed in interior parts of Daringibadi block like Katinga, Jhingiriguda, Mandipanka, Gadapur, Sikrabarga, Sraniketa, Budaguda, Gumikia, Pliheri, Greenbadi and Parapanga.
Similarly, cold conditions prevailed in Phulbani, administrative headquarters of Kandhamal, as a minimum temperature of 4.5 degree Celsius was recorded in the town today.
Mercury dropped below 10 degree Celsius in 18 towns and cities in the state with Bhubaneswar shivering at 8.2, the lowest recorded in the capital city in the last 22 years.
Prevailing cold wave condition in the state was due to upper air trough over Central India which was moving towards the eastern region.
The condition is likely to prevail in the state for the next two days, the Regional Meteorological Centre forecasted.
