Hundreds of students of a government run residential girls’ school in Kokasara block of Odisha’s Kalahandi district today blocked the national highway no. 26 to draw attention to their sorry plight at the residential school.
Students of Kasturba Gandhi Balika Sevashram of Kokasara with school bags in their hands protested against the poor quality of food served at their hostel. The students blocked national highway no. 26 at Chiliguda today and alleged of ill treatment by the school staff.
Later, following persuasion by the district administration officials, the students vacated the road block.
Earlier, students of the Sevashram were seen with tears in their eyes pleading with teachers and other school employees to open the Sevashram’s gates which were locked. The school authorities had tried their level best to prevent the students from protesting against the goings on at the school.
Somehow some students managed to sneak out of the school and staged the protest.
