The Odisha government has urged the University Grant Commission to accord “University with Potential Excellence” to the Centurion University of Technology and Management in the state.
“Odisha being a low GER state and Centurion University being acknowledged as a model skill provider at national and international level, the current proposal for University with Potential Excellence may please be considered favourably,” said Higher Education secretary GK Dhal in a letter to Ved Prakash, chairman, UGC.
The letter said that the University had been taking a lead role in skill development and vocational education and it has created a social entrepreneurship outreach entity – Gram Tarang – which is one of the first partners of NSDC with a mandate of training 1, 00,000 youth by 2020.
Centurion University’s proposal to be recognized as a Skill cum Workman University has been duly considered and recommended to Ministry of Labor and Employment and Ministry of HRD, Government of India by the Government of Odisha.
This recognition will allow the University to award national certificates for work preparation and national competency certificate up to Pre-Diploma and Diploma level to have Pan-India acceptability, said the letter.
