Odisha seeks 93, 000 houses under special IAY package for Phailin

The Odisha government has sought sanction for 93038 houses under a special package under the Indira Awas Yojana (IAY) for the Phailin and subsequent flood affected people of the state from the Union Ministry of Rural Development (RD).
The Panchayati Raj department has given a detailed district-wise break up to the Union RD department for early sanction of the houses that need to be constructed in the affected areas, said a senior official in the Panchayati Raj department.
The government has proposed the highest number of houses for Ganjam district, where the Phailin had wracked havoc rendering many homeless. It has also proposed 1770 houses for Baleswar, 913 for Puri, 952 for Khurda, 678 for Nayagarh, 641 for Gajapati, 620 for Kandhamal, 503 for Cuttack, 246 for Bhadrak, 208 for Keonjhar, 198 for Jajpur and 75 for Angul.
Besides the houses to be constructed under the IAY scheme,about 20,000 houses would be constructed in five coastal blocks of Ganjam district with assistance from the World Bank. Beneficiarie covered under any other scheme of MHA and ADB will not be covered under IAY (special package) for construction of new houses, sources said.
