Bhubaneswar, Apr 3:
The State Election Commission (SEC) of Odisha has issued the notification for the rescheduled election to the Ranpur NAC.
As per the notification issued today, nomination papers will be filed between April 13 to 18 and scrutinized on April 20. The last date for withdrawal of nominations will be April 23. The polling has been scheduled on May 5 and votes will be counted and result will be announced the following day, i.e. May 6.
RN Senapati, the state election commissioner has asked the collector of Nayagarh to submit a report on the issue.
It may be noted that the election to Ranpur NAC was postponed after anomalies were found in seat reservation. The commissioner has also assured action against the polling officer.
Ranpur NAC polls, originally planned to be held along with the other eight local bodies on April 7, had been deferred by SEC to a later date spawning a blame game.
While BJP’ Surama Padhi went all guns blazing against BJD accusing it of misusing state powers to escape the polls, the BJD attributed the decision to SEC.
“The ruling party became sure that they are about to lose this election. Afraid of the imminent loss, they illegally and undemocratically postponed the polls,” said Padhi.
“This is about the election and the election commissioner takes the call. He will be answerable for this. We have nothing to do with it,” said Rabi Narayan Nanda, Block BJD President of Ranpur.
