Khallikote, July 13:
The Khallikote police in Odisha’s Ganjam district detained another accused in the gruesome murder of local journalist Tarun Aacharya (35), who worked as a stringer for a television news channel on May 27 this year.
The hunt for the prime accused in the murder is still on, police said.
According to reports, the police that had tracked the movement of some persons since the day of the incident, on Saturday detained Suresh Sahu for interrogation.
According to police sources, Suresh had booked two rooms in Kasturi Hotel for the accused a day before the murder of Acharya.
According to Alekh Chandra Pahi, SDPO, Chhatrapur, interrogation of the detainee is on.
Suresh, a cashew trader of Langaleswar village, had business relations with Shyamsundar Prusty, owner of a cashew processing plant near Khallikote. On Prusty’s request, Suresh had booked two rooms in the hotel, he said, adding, police would take action after they get clues from Suresh during interrogation.
He, however, did not divulge the details of the investigation as the two prime suspects are still at large.
Meanwhile, police have not yet traced the whereabouts of the two prime suspects who have reportedly fled to the neighbouring state after the incident.
It may be recalled that Acharya was attacked with sharp weapons by some miscreants at a lonely place near Khallikote police station and Excise office around 10.30 pm on May 27 while he was riding a motorcycle on his way to his home in Bikrampur, about 15 km away from Khallikote.
