Balianta, Jan 12:
Peeved over the poor road conditions in the village, students of an upper primary school on the outskirts of Odisha capital on Monday staged a road blockade as a mark of protest to draw the attention of the authorities.
The students of Budhipada Upper Primary school under Balianta block staged a road blockade yesterday after their repeated representations for repair of Budhipada-Aringala road under the Rural Development department fell on deaf ears.
As per reports, two class seven students of the upper primary school met with an accident while coming to school yesterday due to bad road condition.
The agitated students blocked the road demanding early repairs. Thousands of people travel through this road which has now posed danger to commuters. The students have complained that the poor condition of the road is ignored by several authorities from bureaucrats to ministers.
“A work estimate was prepared in 2012-13 after the road was damaged in the Phailin cyclone. We are awaiting the approval of the estimate and release of funds following which tenders would be invited,” Sudarshan Sahani, sub-divisional assistant executive engineer of Rural development department said.
