Members of Odisha Sarpanch Mahasangh (OSM) today gheraoed the official residence of Law & Panchayati Raj Minister Arun Sahu to press on their eight-point charter of demand.
The eight-point charter of demand of the OSM included repeal of provision allowing ward members to bring no-trust motion against sarpanches, increase in monthly allowance to sarpanches from existing Rs 1500 to Rs 5000, provision of retirement allowance among others, sources said.
The OSM members claimed that the protest has the support of sarpanches of 6,236 panchayats across 314 blocks in the state.
The protestors said they had earlier submitted their demands to the Minister but no action has been taken by the government forcing them to launch their agitation today.
