Most parts of Odisha have come under intense cold wave with the mercury plummeting to 4 degree Celsius at Daringbadi in Kandhamal district today – making it the coldest place in the state.
According to the weather report issued by the regional meteorology centre in Bhubaneswar, lowest temperature at Phulbani stood at 4.6 degrees making it the only other place to have dipped below five degrees.
Temperature at as many as 10 towns of the state including Angul, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Sundargarh, Hirakud, Bhawanipatna, Bolangir, Koraput, Phulbani and Daringbadi was recorded below 10 degrees.
While normal life in these districts has been disrupted, a number of birds and fishes were found dead due to the intense cold wave. Attendance at educational institutions in many areas of the tribal dominated districts has also thinned.
The cold wave conditions would continue for the next 48 hours and Daringibadi is expected to receive light snowfall, the local meteorology office here said.
