Bhubaneswar, Jan 2:
BJD state unit president K V Singhdeo accompanied by party’s senior leaders today met Odisha Governor Dr S C Jamir to lodge their complaint against the large scale irregularities committed in implementation of National Food Security Act (NFSA) in the state.
Alleging rampant irregularities in identification of beneficiaries under the NFSA, the party sought the intervention of the Governor in the matter.
With the figuring of names of elected representatives like that of MLAs and mayors in the list of beneficiaries under the NFSA, the party alleged of politicization of the programme by the ruling BJD in the state.
“The kind of irregularities they have committed in provision of food grains to the poor, has happened nowhere in India. They have flouted all rules. They have done nothing. No food commission or vigilance committee at the state level. They have taken it as their party’s programme and not as a programme of the Central government,” alleged BJP’s senior leader Bijay Mohapatra speaking to reporters after the delegation’s meeting with the Governor.
“Since the Governor has more powers in tribal dominated areas, we have brought it to his notice and have requested his intervention to ensure that every eligible person in tribal dominated areas is covered under the scheme. We have demanded action against government officials guilty of committing irregularities in identification of beneficiaries under the scheme,” Mohapatra said.
Officers should not be given the slip, since it is them who have identified ineligible beneficiaries, the senior BJP leader pointed out.
“The Governor has assured us to take appropriate steps on the issue after discussing the matter with senior officials,” Mohapatra informed.
The BJP delegation led by K V Singhdeo apart from Mohapatra included party leaders Bhrugu Baxipatra, Samir Mohanty, Sajjan Sharma among others.
