Nayagarh, Apr 5:
The administration in Odisha’s Nayagarh district have lodged an FIR against Rabi Narayan Mohapatra, Rajya Sabha MP and BJD candidate for the Ranpur Assembly seat, for violation of the model code of conduct.
Reports said Mohapatra had organised election rallies at Chandpur, Gopalpur, Sunakhala and Ranpur on Thursday without taking the requisite permission from the district collector or sub collector who are the designated Returning Officers (RO) as per the directive of the Election Commission.
As per the rules, candidates should take permission from the concerned RO 48 hours before holding rallies or processions for their poll campaign.
Based on evidence of video recordings of Mohapatra’s rallies, the Nayagarh sub collector Nrusingha Charan Swain directed the Ranpur Block Development Officer (BDO) Gyanaranjan Bhanjadeo to lodge the FIR against him.
