Bhubaneswar, Mar 25:
Less than a fortnight after joining the Biju Janata Dal (BJD), senior leader Arun Dey severed all relations with it and has predicted doom for the party in the coming elections today. He is likely to file nomination for the Balasore Sadar Assembly constituency tomorrow, sources said, adding, he will be an independent candidate.
Dey, who was strongly tipped to be named the BJD candidate for the Balasoere Lok Sabha constituency to take on Union minister Srikant Jena, was denied a ticket.
Making the announcement in Balasore today, Dey said he would definitely contest the coming elections. He, however, did not make it clear whether he would contest the parliamentary elections or the Assembly election or even whether he would fight on a ticket from some other party or as an independent.
Dey said the BJD candidates chosen for the Balasore Lok Sabha constituency and various Assembly segments under it have little chance of winning and would spell doom for the party.
Dey, it may be noted, had contested the last election from the the Balasore Lok Sabha seat as an NCP candidate under a seat sharing arrangement with the BJD.
